We really hope that families from Nursery and Reception have been enjoying the opportunity to stay and play on Friday this week, it was lovely to have a few parents in the classrooms. Unfortunately due to unforeseen our EYFS lead, Steph Li Rosi, will not be able to run the more in-depth introduction to the Nursery for parents on Monday 26th September or the more in-depth introduction to the Reception for parents on Tuesday 27th September. These date will be rescheduled for early October. We will let you know as soon as we have confirmation of dates. Sorry for the inconvenience.
We have a table open at school near the office to collect food donations made by families and staff. Please donate dried food goods and toiletries to the school and we will donate these to the food bank in the church. There is also a Harvest Assembly this Thursday 29th September from 3pm – 3:30pm, parents and carers are welcome to attend.

Thursday 13th October is an opportunity for children to come to school wearing clothes that celebrate their culture. If you have any clothes that you think could be worn by other families for this event please drop them into the front office at school. By recycling any unwanted clothes you are helping the environment and cutting costs for other families. We hope you will be able to exchange items for the day, wash and return for the next occasion.

In Reception we have been following instructions in our communication and language carpet sessions and using this information to make our very own Elmer biscuits. We know we need butter, sugar, plain flour and a magical topping of our choice to make these shortbread biscuits....
In Writing, we have been learning about Viking runes to begin our new writing cycle where we will write an information text about The Vikings. We decoded the Viking runes and wrote our names and a secret message in them....
In Science we have been testing different materials. We explored our enquiry question “what material would make a suitable raincoat?”. We tested each material’s flexibility, water resistance and opacity....

In Science we have been investigating the properties of solids, liquids and gases. We used raisins to make them ‘dance’ as the gas in the fizzy water made the solid move with the bubbles....
We have been writing our own Beowulf tale! We used our drama and narration skills to act out scenes from Beowulf and the Sea-hag. When we froze the narrator retold the story and the actors had to act out in response....
In History, we began our new topic based on The Vikings. To understand the importance of Viking longships, we played a detective hunt game. Here we used clues, coupled with the unique design to recreate our own longships....
