Thank you for your donations for our Harvest festival assembly that took place on Thursday 12th October this week. This was led by Rev Laura and some of our Little Leaders, the school council members, they lead some of the prayers and read poems to celebrate the harvest and share the positivity and gratitude around the school.
Remember that Parents Evening is taking place this week on Tuesday 17th October. Please check your email and sign up, if you can’t find the link in your emails please speak to the class teacher as you will be able to sign up on their iPad when you collect your child. We look forward to sharing learning with you soon. If you don’t have it already, you will need to download Google Sheets to book your slot. Emails have gone out to remind parents that Reading and Phonics interventions will not take place on Tuesday this week due to Parents Evening.
The winning class for attendance this week is Year 3 with 1st – Y3 – 99.3% – Well done – you will enjoy extra playtime this week! In second place is Year 5 with 98.8% and Year 2 come in third place with 96.1%….so close!
Last week many of the children from Year 5 went on their first residential of the term to Ufton Court. The children were away for 2 nights and 3 days and although they arrived home tired, they had a brilliant time. They will be going again in November.
In Gardening club this week, due to the bad weather, we stayed indoors and designed our plan for the Autumn and Winter months so that we have an indoor activity prepared for the future. Some people designed some minibeast hotels, some people designed bird houses......
Our topic book is ‘Handa’s Surprise’, so we decided to explore Handa’s village. We used puppets to retell the story and fed the animals leaves from the trees and different fruits from the story....
This week we are welcoming Autumn. We’re exploring our sensory tray which has lots of Autumn themed colours and textures, how exciting!...
In Writing we will be learning to write traditional tales. Our writing has been based on Anansi The Spider. Our focus was on time connectives and commas. We also used different materials to portray Anansi in a drawing....
Early Years learnt about many famous black female musicians and created artwork inspired by famous black ‘music makers’ such as Edita Jones....
Year 1 learnt about Bessie Coleman. They created sky artwork using a range of collage materials. They explained why Bessie was an inspiration for being the first black female pilot....
Year 2 learnt about the life of Mary Seacole. They generated biographies exploring her inspirational achievements as a wartime nurse. They also created artwork inspired by Sheperd Fairey who created the famous campaign poster of President Obama....
Year 3 learnt about the life of Althea Mcnish. They created artwork inspired by her works using wax patterns and paint....
Year 4 explored the life of Maya Angelou. They explored her poetry and wrote biographies detailing her life and achievements. They also created beautiful night sky artworks....
Year 5 explored the life of campaigner Olive Morris and generated biographies detailing her life achievements and why she was such an inspirational Black woman. They also generated ‘Black Lives Matter’ campaign posters....
Year 6 looked at many female black British athletes, such as Dina Asher-Smith, many of whom have gone on to receive MBEs or OBEs for their work within the community. They generated detailed biographies and wrote about their reasons for why particular athletes had inspired......
