Using technology throughout the curriculum we believe every learner should be empowered, inspired and prepared. Technology is fundamental within Holy Trinity enhancing both teaching and learning from electronic delivery of lesson content (reducing our printing and monitoring our environmental impact) through to coding robots and creating rich, multimedia content shared across the world.
We have a clear and simple vision; the children should be empowered, confident users of technology, safe online and aware of the dangers, inspired to create innovative digital content and prepared with skills for their future in a digital world.
It’s not just the children who get involved, with members of staff making just as much progress and taking just as many risks as the children. Technology is a core thread throughout lessons regardless of the subject or content, from Google Classroom to allow access to the curriculum for all, green-screen to bring learning to life or augmented reality to take learners on a journey across the world. The vision, planning and support ensures everyone makes ambitious choices and produces high quality work.
We use a computing curriculum designed and written by The National Centre for Computing Education (funded by the Department for Education). The progression journey can be seen below. This is used in conjunction with the online safety / digital citizenship lessons that we teach across the year too. More information about this can be found by clicking here.
The children have many opportunities to use technology throughout their school day across the whole curriculum. We use a range of technology to enhance the learning experience though technology is not a substitution for pencil or paper, it is used to help deliver rich, multi media ideas in a creative and innovative way. From basic word processing to mastering presentations, all the basics are covered. However, the children’s experience soon develops and they are making web pages, apps and games, animations and using green screening. As they go through the school they explore augmented reality, coding languages such as Scratch, HTML, and Swift. We believe our curriculum gives them all the experiences they need to prepare them for 21st century lifestyles.
Technology is in all our lives. For our children it will form the basis of their future careers. Teaching them how to use it, create with it and stay safe while using it, is crucial to developing independent and confident digital learners with skills for the future.
