We are so proud of Year 6 – their wonderful personalities and hard work this year have led to all of the children making exceptional progress. This week is SATs Week. From Monday to Thursday, across the country, all Year 6 pupils will be taking tests each morning. This may mean that teachers and senior leaders may be unavailable in the morning at the gate. If you need anything, please contact the office for a call back.
We want to wish Year 6 enormous good luck for their tests and also want to tell them that, regardless of their SATs, we are already extremely proud of them for all they have achieved!
Did you know that reading every day at home helps your child to develop a wider vocabulary and supports accurate reading comprehension at the expected speed and level? It is really important that your child reads every day, preferably to or with you or another adult / older sibling. It is also important to record this in your child’s reading record.
We are improving the systems for home reading so that you can see feedback from adults who read with your child at school more easily and can share your feedback with us. Your child will soon be bringing home their reading book and reading record in a special reading pouch.
If your child is in a phonics group, they will be bringing the following books home in their pouch:
The book they have been reading that week in their phonics lesson: this has your child’s name on it because it is for them to keep. Please hear your child read this as it will be familiar to them and they will be proud to show you their progress!
Two ‘Book Bag Books’, linked to the book they have been reading in phonics: these need to come back to school every day in the pouch and will be changed for new books the following week. The skills your child has learned in phonics should enable them to read these books confidently. Please hear them read these books!
