11 May More Super Spidery Learning in Nursery!
This week, Nursery focused on overlearning the story “Aaaargh, Spider!” by re-enacting it with props from our small world tray. The children really got into character and brought the story to life! We also enjoyed making spiderwebs using lollipop sticks and thread—a fun way to strengthen our fine motor skills.
At the playdough table, we discovered an exciting dice game. The children rolled the dice, counted the dots, and used the playdough mat to build different parts of a spider step by step. It was a great mix of counting, creativity, and hands-on play.
The highlight of the week was our minibeast hunt in the playground! Armed with magnifying glasses and identification sheets, the children turned into little detectives. They searched under rocks, on leaves, and in the mud, and found caterpillars, bees, flies, ladybirds, and ants. It was a brilliant way to explore the natural world up close.
In maths, we explored capacity, comparing objects that hold more and less. We revisited this key vocabulary along with the Makaton signs to support understanding.
