The Pupil Premium is additional government funding provided to schools to help close the attainment gap and improve outcomes for disadvantaged pupils.
At Holy Trinity, we are committed to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive, achieve and reach their full potential.
The Pupil Premium is allocated to schools for pupils from Reception to Year 6 who:
Are currently eligible for Free School Meals (FSM)
Have been registered for Free School Meals at any point in the last six years
Are looked after (in care) or previously looked after
Have parents serving in the Armed Forces
This funding is designed to provide targeted support to ensure all pupils have equal access to high-quality education and wider opportunities.
Research shows that pupils who are entitled to Pupil Premium may face additional challenges, including:
Delays in language and communication development;
Reduced access to family academic support;
Lower confidence and self-esteem;
Issues with attendance and punctuality.
We recognise these potential barriers and work proactively to remove them, ensuring every child feels supported, valued and successful.
Schools have the flexibility to decide how best to spend their Pupil Premium funding. At Holy Trinity, decisions are carefully informed by evidence-based research and the individual needs of our pupils.
Funding may be used to provide:
Additional classroom support;
Targeted maths and literacy interventions;
Speech and language support;
Emotional wellbeing and family support;
Access to educational visits and residential trips;
Music tuition and wider curriculum opportunities;
Breakfast club provision;
High-quality learning resources.
Our aim is not only to raise academic achievement, but also to support children’s wellbeing, confidence and personal development.
If your child is eligible for Free School Meals, we strongly encourage you to register. Even if your child chooses not to take a school meal, registering enables the school to receive valuable additional funding which directly supports pupils’ learning and wellbeing. Use this link to check whether you are eligible for Free School Meals, or contact the school office for confidential advice and support with the application process.
At Holy Trinity, we carefully monitor the impact of our Pupil Premium spending. Our strategy is reviewed annually in the Autumn term, when we evaluate its effectiveness in improving the lives and learning journeys of our pupils.
