At Holy Trinity we believe that art inspires creativity, imagination and inventiveness. We believe that art gives our pupils the skills and knowledge necessary for them to engage with, and express responses to, ideas and experiences.
At Holy Trinity, we believe that art enables children to express and communicate what they see, feel and think. Through creative exploration, pupils develop confidence, imagination and individuality. We encourage every child to experiment with colour, texture, form and pattern, using a wide range of materials, techniques and processes.
Children are taught to reflect on and evaluate their work thoughtfully. By developing the skills to be analytical and self-aware, they learn how to refine their ideas and achieve their artistic goals. Above all, we believe that every child has an inner artist waiting to be discovered.
Our Art and Design curriculum introduces pupils to a diverse range of artists, designers and art movements, helping them understand how art reflects culture, history and identity. Alongside this knowledge, children develop practical skills across a variety of media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, textiles and mixed media.
Lessons are carefully planned to build skills progressively from year to year. Art is often linked to wider curriculum topics to provide meaningful context, and at times pupils take part in immersive, full-day creative projects which allow them to explore ideas in depth.
Creativity is highly valued and celebrated throughout our school. Children’s artwork is proudly displayed in classrooms and shared spaces, creating a vibrant and inspiring environment. We host regular events where families can experience and celebrate pupils’ creative achievements. These include art exhibitions and collaboration with visiting artists. Our dedicated art room provides a stimulating space where creativity can flourish.
All children have the opportunity to visit galleries and experience art beyond the classroom. These visits inspire pupils, broaden their cultural understanding and motivate them to refine and develop their own artistic skills.
Through Art and Design, we nurture creativity, resilience and pride in achievement — skills which enrich children’s education and remain with them long after they leave primary school.
