Whale paintings based on ‘The Snail and the Whale’ in Year 1 Reading.

In Year 1, we read the story of ‘The snail and the Whale’ for the first time. We thought about questions like ‘What would you have done if you were the snail?’ and ‘How will the story end?’ After this, we took part in a Role on the Wall activity. This involved sharing what we had learnt about the characters using evidence from both the text and illustrations. On the inside of the character, we noted down information about how the characters might be feeling. On the outside, we wrote down known facts. Finally, we created some watery whale art. Now our classroom looks just like a scene from the story of the ‘Snail and the whale.’
