Learning About Ratio in Ms Mather’s Year 6 Maths Group

Miss Mather’s maths group have, this week, been learning about ratio. We looked at how ratio and fractions are different, when considering whether we compare an amount against the whole (fractions), or against another part in the set (ratio). We looked for patterns and connections to show how we calculate different amounts with the same ratio. Using a tube of Smarties as the basis for an investigation, Y6 compared the number of each colour in a tube, and calculated how many of each colour Smartie they would have if they had more tubes with the exact same ratio in them.
