27 Jun Summer Fun with our Nursery Learning!
This week in Nursery, we began an exciting new topic — Summer — alongside our core book Billy’s Bucket. On Monday morning, the children were amazed to find a mysterious box waiting for us, labelled To Billy. Inside was a bright yellow bucket, sparking plenty of curiosity and interest in our new story.
Inspired by Billy’s Bucket, we recreated a rock pool in our classroom and had lots of fun moulding fish and other sea creatures out of playdough. Outside, we explored the idea of summer by making pretend ice creams, carefully scooping and pouring different materials into cones.
We also got very artistic this week! The children created colourful jellyfish using paint, paper plates and bubble wrap, practising their cutting and gluing skills. We explored making sea creature silhouettes using a tapping paint technique, which the children really enjoyed experimenting with.
In phonics, we learned the new sound d. The children were excited to see that the letter looks a bit like a dinosaur, and they practised writing it on the big whiteboard.
In maths, our focus was on describing familiar routes. We introduced vocabulary such as in front of, behind, go straight and turn left/right while exploring journeys and directions together.
Have a lovely weekend!
