15 Feb Year 1 Write Letters to Kevin the Koala as Part of their Australia Topic
This week, Year 1 have been busy putting their writing skills to work by composing thoughtful letters to Kevin the Koala. The children loved imagining what Kevin might be getting up to in his beloved tree, and they used their creative flair to draw detailed pictures of him clinging tightly to his branch. Their illustrations were full of personality and showed just how much they’ve learned about this iconic Australian animal.
This writing task rounded off our geography unit on Australia and how it compares to the UK. Over the past few weeks, the children have explored differences in climate, seasons, animals and landscapes, building a strong understanding of life on the other side of the world. To celebrate the end of the topic, they completed their own Australia fact files, proudly showcasing the knowledge they’ve gathered.
It’s been a wonderful blend of creativity, curiosity and growing independence—well done, Year 1.
