14 Mar Year 1 Explore the NFU Big QUESTion Workshop!
This week, Year 1 took part in an exciting NFU Big QUESTion workshop, diving into the wonderful world of farming, wildlife and the natural environments around us. The children were buzzing with curiosity as they explored what farmers do, what they might look like, and how important their work is. Using notes, pictures and lots of discussion, the children built a brilliant picture of life on a farm.
As part of the workshop, the class learnt about a range of fascinating topics, including: different habitats and the animals that live in them, how sheepdogs are trained to help farmers with their daily work and the amazing diversity of birds found across the UK.
The children were captivated by the idea that every environment—from woodlands to wetlands—has its own special creatures, each perfectly suited to their habitat.
To build on this learning, Year 1 have been set a very exciting homework task. Families are invited to explore the outdoors together and use the Merlin Bird ID app to identify birds in different environments. Whether it’s a robin in the garden, a pigeon in the park, or something more unusual on a weekend walk, we can’t wait to hear all about the birds the children discover.
We look forward to reading their observations and celebrating the budding naturalists in our class.
