01 May Gardening Club: Examining Allium and Planting Rocket
Allium, Gardening Club’s flower of the week. We learnt that Allium is a genus of flowering plants that includes onions, garlic, leeks and chives. We headed out for a walk in our local area where we found some wild Allium growing. There was a pungent onion-like smell, confirming why Allium are known to be a stinky plant! After learning about Allium (and enjoying meeting a plethora of ladybirds- collectively known as a “loveliness” of ladybirds- whilst we were out and about!) we headed back to school where we sowed some rocket seeds, ready for some home grown cookery in a few weeks time. We then did some tidying and weeding to prepare spaces for even more planting next week.
