17 May Investigating the Speed Salt and Sugar Dissolve in Year 5 Science
In Science this week, we carried out an investigation to answer the question: ‘What makes a difference to how fast salt or sugar dissolves?’ We tested different types of salt, including table salt and rock salt, and different sugars such as icing sugar, demerara sugar, caster sugar and granulated sugar. We explored how warm water, room temperature water and stirring speed affected how quickly each substance dissolved. We carefully recorded our results in tables and discussed our findings, explaining why some sugars and salts dissolved faster or slower than others.
