27 May Year 1 Weekly Learning Update – A Busy and Brilliant End to Summer Term 1
This week, Year 1 have been putting their maths skills to work in real‑life contexts. After last week’s focus on counting in 2s, 5s and 10s, the children used their knowledge to count coins, play shops and practise “buying” different items. They explored how to share coins between items and spread the cost, showing fantastic reasoning and teamwork as they worked through different shopping scenarios.
Our visit to the Curve Garden was equally productive. Building on last week’s clay work, the children used their creative skills to paint their clay prints, thinking carefully about colour, pattern and detail. They also spent time drawing plants from observation, using slow looking and noticing the tiny features that make each plant unique. Their focus and creativity shone throughout the session.
It has been a wonderfully busy week, full of practical learning and artistic exploration — a brilliant end to Summer Term 1.
