07 Jun Year 1 Complete their Moving Animals in Design Technology
This week, Year 1 proudly completed the final stage of their moving animals in Design Technology. After weeks of planning, sketching and testing mechanisms, the children were ready to bring their designs to life.
Using impressive fine motor skills, the children carefully pierced and screwed the joints of their animals to create the moving parts. They showed real determination and control as they worked with tools safely and accurately.
The children collaborated brilliantly — checking their initial models to decide which parts needed movement, discussing where to pierce, and supporting one another to position screws correctly. It was wonderful to see them problem‑solve, communicate and refine their ideas, just like real designers and engineers.
Their final pieces were a joy to see: animals that flap, wiggle, twist, stomp and glide – each one reflecting thoughtful design choices and growing confidence with mechanisms.
We are incredibly proud of their hard work and creativity throughout this project.
