This week, we finished reading our core story, Hello Friend. Inspired by the story, we enjoyed little circle-time sessions where we practised making new friends in Nursery by introducing ourselves and asking others for their names. We also learned how to extend our sentences using simple sentence stems, helping us to develop our communication and confidence when talking with others. We explored how to draw a face and its different features too, and our writing table was covered in lots of lovely, carefully drawn faces!
In Art, we explored colour mixing and experimented with symmetry. The children enjoyed squirting paint onto one side of a sheet of paper before folding it over to reveal a beautiful butterfly shape. It was wonderful to see their excitement as they discovered the patterns and colours they had created.
In Maths, we explored the words “more” and “lots”, using them to describe and compare collections. The children enjoyed using these new mathematical words during their play and problem-solving, as well as learning the corresponding Makaton actions. We also set up our voting station, where the children vote for the book we will read at snack time.
Outside, we practised our ball skills by learning how to bounce and catch a large ball using both hands. The children enjoyed developing their coordination, control and confidence as they practised these new skills.
It has been another busy and joyful week in Nursery, full of creativity, communication, friendships and learning. We are so proud of the children and all the wonderful ways they are settling into their new routines and learning together!
