Our Black History Month Learning

As part of our Black History Month celebrations, each year group explored the life and achievements of an inspirational person, learning about their contributions and the impact they have made in their respective fields.

• Nursery discovered the life of musician Ella Fitzgerald.
• Reception learned about weather presenter Alex Beresford.
• Year 1 explored the achievements of astronaut Mae Jemison.
• Year 2 found out about the work of space scientist Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock.
• Year 3 learned about the remarkable life and career of actress, singer, author, presenter and politician Floella Benjamin.
• Year 4 discovered the work of artist and teacher Alma Thomas.
• Year 5 explored the life of journalist and campaigner Claudia Jones.
• Year 6 learned about the work of poet and author Sophia Thakur.

After learning about their key figure, the children used art and writing to capture their learning, which was shared at our Black History Month celebration last week. Look at their beautiful work!
