06 Dec Captivating Learning in Nursery
This week we spent time overlearning our core story, The Everywhere Bear. The children retold the story using Makaton actions, which helped them build confidence and understanding.
We also had lots of fun exploring how to sort and compare objects by their properties, especially size. We practised new words like bigger, smaller, biggest and smallest and used them across our activities.
A favourite task was ordering different sized bears, from the smallest to the biggest, and matching bowls to each bear just like in Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
Our highlight was a science experiment inspired by Goldilocks. We asked an important question:
Which cereal will be the soggiest when the bears get back from their walk?
The children tested different cereals with milk and watched how they changed over time. They then gave the bears some helpful advice, such as:
- Which cereal stayed firm the longest
- How much milk to add
- When to pour the milk
- How long the bears should stay on their walk
The children poured and measured milk, made predictions and shared what they noticed. It was a lively, hands-on way to link science, storytelling and problem solving.
We are excited for more learning and fun next week.
