01 Mar Learning about Farm Animals in Nursery
This week, we embarked on an exciting new topic: “Farm Animals”! We began by reading What the Ladybird Heard by Julia Donaldson, a delightful story that introduced us to different farm animals and their adventures. Inspired by the story, we had lots of fun creating our own ladybirds using playdough, shaping their tiny spots while practising our fine motor skills.
As we explored the farm theme, we learned about the different animals we might find on a farm, such as cows, sheep, pigs, and chickens. We also discovered the names of their enclosures—cows live in barns, pigs in sties, sheep in pens, and chickens in coops! The children enjoyed matching animals to their homes and discussing why each animal needs a special place to stay.
In maths, we explored the concept of adding and taking away. We discovered that a group of objects changes in quantity when something is added or removed. Through hands-on activities using toy animals, we developed our early number skills in a fun and engaging way.
We’re looking forward to more farmyard adventures next week!
