08 Oct Year 4 Maths: Exploring Perimeter with Thread
This week in Maths, the children took a hands-on approach to investigating perimeter! Using bright orange and brown thread, they carefully traced around the edges of various 2D shapes—including circles, hexagons and squares—to measure their outer boundaries. By straightening out their strings alongside rulers and comparing lengths, the children directly observed which shapes had larger, smaller, or equal perimeters. Working both individually and collaboratively in pairs, they gained a clear, concrete understanding of perimeter as the total distance around a shape.
