24 Oct Nursery Celebrate Black History Month
This week, we had a wonderful time celebrating Black History Month! The children took part in exciting activities that helped them explore and appreciate the rich cultural heritage of Black history.
We kicked off the week by learning about the amazing artist Howardena Pindell. The children got creative, recreating her vibrant, abstract artwork using hole punchers, cutters, glue, and tiny circles of paper. It was a fantastic way to introduce them to contemporary art while encouraging creativity and fine motor skills!
We also enjoyed the inspiring story Ella: The Queen of Jazz, all about the life and achievements of the legendary singer Ella Fitzgerald. The children were captivated by Ella’s story, and our music and movement session was full of joy—dancing, playing instruments, and singing a special song about her. The room was alive with rhythm, sound, and laughter!
But that’s not all…
As we wrapped up our topic on Pets, we had a special visit from two lovely dogs—Dotty and Dave! The children were absolutely thrilled to meet them, and their excitement was contagious.
Inspired by our core story “Lulu Gets a Cat”, we also welcomed a new friend into our home corner: an adorable (stuffed) cat named Makeeda. The children immediately began looking after her—feeding, playing, and making her feel right at home.
It’s been a week full of creativity, music and happy moments!
