30 Oct Nursery Learn about Howardena Pindell and Ella Fitzgerald
This week, we had a wonderful time celebrating Black History Month! The children took part in exciting activities that helped them explore and appreciate the rich cultural heritage of Black history.
We kicked off the week by learning about the amazing artist Howardena Pindell. The children got creative, recreating her vibrant, abstract artwork using hole punchers, cutters, glue and tiny circles of paper. It was a fantastic way to introduce them to contemporary art while encouraging creativity and developing fine motor skills!
We also enjoyed the inspiring story Ella: The Queen of Jazz, all about the life and achievements of the legendary singer Ella Fitzgerald. The children were captivated by Ella’s story, and our music and movement session was full of joy—dancing, playing instruments, and singing a special song about her. The room was alive with rhythm, sound, and laughter! The highlight was reenacting the story – everyone participated enthusiastically!
But that’s not all…
In RE, we talked about the harvest festival and the importance of being thankful for the food we have on our plate. The children then made a soup, shared it with each other and thanked one another.
It’s been a week full of creativity, music, and happy moments!
