21 Sep Nursery: What a great start to the year we’ve had already!
This week in Nursery has been full of creativity, exploration and fun. We began by learning about different emotions. The children enjoyed practising facial expressions to show their feelings, and then used playdough to bring those emotions to life—squeezing, flattening and rolling the dough was a big hit! From there, we moved on to a playful way of making marks by attaching pens to toy cars. The children loved watching the colourful tracks appear as their cars zoomed across the paper.
In art, we explored colour mixing and experimented with symmetry, squirting paint onto one side of a sheet before folding it to reveal a beautiful butterfly shape. Our small world play took on a very special theme as we recreated Holy Trinity Primary School in a tray. With their own photos stuck onto lolly sticks, the children delighted in re-enacting their nursery routines.
We’ve also been practising our cutting skills with scissors, and our construction area has quickly become a favourite place to be—robots and aeroplanes made from Mobilo pieces have been especially popular. Alongside this, we have been learning to take turns in group and sports games, building important social skills. In maths, the children focused on subitising—learning to recognise amounts without counting.
It’s been a busy, joyful week and a wonderful start to our year together!
