15 Jun Nursery’s Anna Hibiscus Adventures!
This week, we continued enjoying our story Anna Hibiscus, and it inspired us to explore some exciting new activities. Just like Anna does in the story, we had a go at cooking and pounding yams! Everyone quickly realised how hard it was, which helped us understand why Anna found it tricky when her aunties asked her to try. It was a great hands-on experience that connected beautifully with the story.
We also explored movement through music, dancing to lively African rhythms just like Anna does with her Uncle Tunde. Outdoors, we learned new words like cartwheel and somersault, two of the fun movements Anna does with her cousins. The children had lots of fun practising some of their own acrobatic moves in the playground, developing both their confidence and coordination.
In Maths, we worked on recording scores during games—an exciting way to practise counting and writing numerals. The children are getting more confident at writing numbers from 0 to 5, especially when they can see their scores going up!
In Phonics, we introduced a brand-new sound— ‘a’. The children enjoyed practising writing it on their mini whiteboards, helping to build both their letter recognition and writing skills.
It’s been a busy, active, and creative week of learning!
