19 Apr Year 1 Explore ‘-teen’ Numbers!
This week, Year 1 have been deepening their understanding of teen numbers – and what a fantastic week of learning it has been. The children have been using their growing maths skills to explore different representations of numbers from 11 to 19, showing real confidence and curiosity.
Through hands-on activities, the children worked with tens frames, bead strings, Numicon, dienes, number lines and pictorial images to spot what makes a teen number special — one ten and some more. They practised identifying teen numbers in mixed groups, matching numerals to representations and explaining their thinking using full sentences.
We were especially proud of how the children used mathematical language such as “ten and five more makes fifteen” and “I can see a ten stick and seven ones.”Their ability to recognise teen numbers in different forms shows just how much their number sense is growing.
Year 1 have shown brilliant focus, teamwork and enthusiasm throughout the week. A great start to the Summer Term, Year 1!
