01 Feb Year 1: Information Text Writers!
To begin, the children worked in groups to discuss and build sentences about cats. They practised saying their ideas aloud, improving them together, and choosing the most useful facts. Next, they took on the challenge of organising an information text: identifying subheadings, sorting key facts, and matching information to the correct sections. This helped them understand how writers group ideas so that readers can easily find what they need.
The children then moved on to writing their own sentences on whiteboards, focusing on capital letters, full stops, and using clear, factual language. All of this preparation led to their final piece of writing — a full information text all about cats!
We are incredibly proud of the effort, teamwork and growing independence the children have shown. Their finished pieces are fantastic and show just how much they’ve learned about writing to inform.
