14 Mar Year 6 Maths: Data and Statistics
In Ms Mather’s group, the maths focus this week remains on data and statistics. The children were provided with a large data set- the ages of all Year 6 pupils written in months. We agreed that the data was difficult to read or interpret, so began a process of sorting the data, adding up ages that were the same, putting them into groups, so it was easier to understand, and reduced room for errors when adding them up. We understood the importance of being mathematically organised. We then calculated the mean average of the data set by finding the sum of all the ages, and then dividing this sum by 30, the total number of children in year 6.
